Iran football federation summons player after hugging female fan
So, Iran's football federation isn't too happy with Ramin Rezaeian, a player who hugged a female fan before a match. This comes not long after women were finally allowed to watch games in person for the first time in over 40 years. The federation called Rezaeian in for a chat with their ethics committee, but they haven't said anything official about it yet.
Physical contact between unrelated men and women is a big no-no under Iranian law, which has been the case since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Women were banned from football matches for decades, but they got to attend a game in August 2022.
This isn't the first time Iranian football has taken action over such issues. Back in April, Esteghlal’s goalkeeper Hossein Hosseini got suspended and fined for hugging a female fan.
Rezaeian, who plays for Esteghlal and has quite the international career, having played in Qatar and Belgium, is now facing the federation’s scrutiny. Quite the drama on and off the pitch, right?
